An Important NYE Update (2/24)

Previously, and early on in the planning process, an invitation was extended for families to join the youth at National Youth Event at Walt Disney World® Resort, Florida. Since that time, some concerns have developed regarding the implications of extending such a wide-reaching invitation to family members. These concerns include programmatic, logistical and financial issues.

Centered in our primary purpose of ensuring that NYE remain the National YOUTH Event in a church and world where youth continually wonder whether or not they have a place – we have adjusted the logistical framework for NYE to ensure that NYE participants have the first privilege of registration and to accommodate with reasonableness families who wish to participate.

We honor the importance of family, and in recognizing that attending an event at Walt Disney World® Resort holds broad appeal, we have revised NYE family pricing as follows:

• Registration from now until May 1 is open only for NYE participants.
• Beginning May 1, families may register on a first-come/first serve basis.
• Each family member will be charged the advertised $549.00 registration fee which will include their lodging and a one-day pass to one of the Disney parks. Meals are not in included in this package.
• At $549.00 per person, a family of four will be paying $2,196 for the family package.
• This requires a minimum of double occupancy for accommodations. Families of more than four will be required to be responsible for a second guest room.

The delayed family registration is intended to allow a period dedicated exclusively for event participants. Please note that the revised family registration package clarifies that family individuals who are not event participants are responsible for meals. This revised family pricing does not pertain to those registered before February 24, 2016.

For questions and additional information, please contact Mr. Lee Foley (foleyl@ucc.org).

Overview

About the Event National Youth Event (NYE) is a spirited quadrennial event centered on faith, leadership, service and social justice first inaugurated in 1980. It is celebrated as the largest denominational gathering for the United Church of Christ with an expected attendance of 4,000 participants.

Making History
NYE 2016 will bring many firsts for this youth inspired gathering, including hosting the event on a non-college campus for the first time in NYE history! In 2016, we proudly partner with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a sister denomination, to jointly host NYE! It will be the first National Youth Event that will invite families and non-youth visitors to attend.

Asking You To Believe
Our NYE 2012 theme was simply Imagine, inspired by the scripture, Isaiah 43:19. We asked youth to envision God's purpose and plan for their lives — "Can you perceive it?" Having explored our divine imagination, do we have the confidence and faith to believe?

Believe hails as our 2016 theme, but it is not a query. It is a charge, responsibility and call to action. The scripture Hebrews 11:1 captures the heart of this charge, "Now faith is the confidence that what we believe will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." We invite our amazing still speaking youth to believe in themselves as leaders of faith sharing in the infinite work of our Lord in a diverse world calling each of us to serve.

National Youth Event 2016
National Youth Event (NYE) 2016 will bring many firsts for us including hosting the event on a non-college campus for the first time in NYE history! It will also be the first National Youth Event that will invite families and non-youth visitors to attend! We are also proudly partnering with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to jointly host NYE next summer for the first time ever with a sister denomination!

How Much Will It Cost?
This is the first National Youth Event hosted on a non-college campus and so the prices will be slightly more than past NYE costs. We have worked hard to keep costs reasonably low while also offering amazing value for the gathering experience centered in faith, leadership, social justice and service. For five days and four nights, the cost is $549 per person (double occupancy) or $599 per person (single occupancy).

Donation
Add a donation offering of any amount to your registration to help underwrite costs for National Youth Event and maintain affordable rates for all.

Why Do We Have Increased Rates?
NYE 2016 is substantially discounted for the value of participating in five days and four nights of programming which includes housing, most meals, snacks, park access, Wi-Fi and local ground transportation! The program offers a generous discount by more than 60% which is unmatched for a week at any theme park!

How Can We Support NYE for 2016 and Beyond?
In an effort to honor our fiscal responsibility and to insure the event is sustainable, we are asking our wider church communities to share in the costs in a variety of ways:
  • Adding a Donation offering of any amount to your registration to help underwrite costs.
  • Hosting and/or supporting a fundraising effort.
  • Incorporating National Youth Event and wider church youth functions on weekly offerings or yearly fundraising calendar for your church, association or conference settings!
  • Become an NYE SPONSOR (email paxtonm@ucc.org for details).
So What's Included in This Amazing Experience?
  1. Youth inspired programing dedicated to faith, leadership, social justice and service!
  2. 5-days and 4-nights of exclusive housing and recreation at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort.
  3. Park access to Disney's theme parks: Magic Kingdom®, Epcot®, Hollywood Studios® and Animal Kingdom® Parks.
  4. 8 Meals (PLEASE NOTE: Friday is a full day in the theme parks and all meals on Friday are on your own and not included.)
  5. Free Wi-Fi
  6. Local Ground Transportation for service projects and social justice outreach.
